Texas buys land for planned Bear Creek State Park in Uvalde County

What they're saying: "The acquisition of Bear Creek State Park will provide Texans access to the Frio River along with streams, canyons and hiking trails for visitors to explore," Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement.

Context: TPWD has added more than 6,800 acres of parkland since January, Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission chair Paul Foster said in a statement.

• That includes more than 3,000 acres to double the footprint of Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

By the numbers: TPWD purchased the Bear Creek land for $33.5 million.

• The state will develop the park through the $1 billion Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, which voters approved in 2023 to expand Texas' state parks.
