Data: Brewer's Association; Chart: Sara Wise/Axios
Half of Texas' 10 largest craft breweries saw sales drop in 2024, according to an Axios analysis of Brewers Association data.
Why it matters: The craft beer market continues to cool as breweries face rising costs and a slowdown in drinking among younger generations.
By the numbers: Gambrinus Company, based in San Antonio and home to the Shiner brand, sold more beer than any other Texas craft brewery in 2024 — nearly 454,000 barrels — despite a 3% dip from 2023.
The Manhattan Project Beer Co. (Dallas) and Saint Arnold Brewing Co. (Houston) saw the largest statewide growth at 41% and 5%, respectively.
Community Beer Co. (Dallas) posted the steepest decline at 31%, according to Brewers Association data. Community Beer disputes the data, but declined to provide its own sales numbers, stating those are "confidential."
Zoom in: Real Ale Brewing Co. and Altstadt Brewery — both near San Antonio — had flat years, with 0% and 1% growth.
What we're watching: Austin-based Pinthouse Pizza, up 3%, is opening its first San Antonio brewpub near The Rim. A new outpost could give its momentum another boost.
Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect that Community Beer Co. disputes the 2024 sales numbers provided by the Brewers Association.
