What to know about San Antonio's popular Lovers Pizzeria

• They once sold out just 20 minutes after opening. I failed to obtain pizza on three previous visits before I gave up and waited in line.
• A line forms outside well before opening time (now 4pm) Thursday through Sunday. When I arrived, a group had set up a small tent and a cooler while waiting.

What to try: The poblano pizza ($26) is the thing to get. It's creamy and subtly cheesy with a distinct poblano flavor that's deep yet not overpowering.

• The crust is actually perfect. It comes straight out of the oven and is soft and fresh on the inside with a crispy, charred bite on the outside.
• Plus, it's not too thin and not too thick. (Don't tell that to St. Louis or Chicago.)

The bottom line: This is New Haven-style pizza, and San Antonio is loving it.
