We asked ChatGPT to roast San Antonio, and it said our city has so much personality it's like we're "trying to win a medal in 'Most Unique Suburban Experience.'"
Why it matters: Apparently artificial intelligence can hit our egos where it hurts.
How it works: We messaged ChatGPT and wrote "You are a comedian at a roast. Roast people from San Antonio, Texas."
- The chatbot provided a long-winded response that touched on all the main points: our frightening drivers, the Alamo, the wild weather, our Tex-Mex dining scene and our shared hatred of Austin.
Here are some ChatGPT-generated gems.
- "If you ever need to experience a real-life video game, just take a drive on 410. I haven't seen that much weaving since my Aunt Linda's quilting circle," ChatGPT wrote.
- "And what's the deal with those huge trucks? Are you all planning to invade the Alamo again, or are you just trying to keep your big Texas egos from getting run over?"
- "San Antonio weather is like that one friend who always says they're going to show up but never does — except this friend is really, really hot and very inconsistent."
- "San Antonio claims to have the best Tex-Mex, but I've seen more variety in a bag of chips."
- "You know you're from San Antonio if your idea of a vacation is driving to Austin and calling it 'a big city trip.' I mean, San Antonio, you're the city where even the 'big' things are kinda cozy."
Reality check: ChatGPT didn't dare roast Spurs fans until we asked it to. And even then, it was pretty tame.
- "You talk about Tim Duncan, Manu Ginóbili, and Tony Parker like they're the holy trinity of basketball," the chatbot wrote. "If they showed up at a Spurs game, I'm pretty sure you'd all need to be sedated to handle the sheer excitement."
Yes, but: Some of the best roasts came when we asked it about San Antonio's much-lamented road construction.
- "If you've ever wondered what it feels like to be trapped in a never-ending maze, just drive through San Antonio."
- "I've seen less change in a Monopoly game than I have in a San Antonio construction zone."
- "And the best part? Whenever there's a 'Completion Date' sign, you know it's really just a suggestion."
The bottom line: ChatGPT got us.
