A new cornerstone has been laid at The Rock with the unveiling of details for the campus restaurant, Roca & Martillo.
Context: The Rock is the new campus owned by the Spurs, which is home to the team's new practice facility, a green space, a dog park and more.
What's happening: Spurs Sports and Entertainment revealed the new restaurant Thursday. Celebrated local chef Jason Dady will lead the restaurant.
Details: Roca & Martillo is expected to open in the spring. It'll have a Tuscan-inspired menu with touches of South Texas flair.
- Early menu items include bourbon honey-glazed Texas quail with charred onion jus and wheat grain risotto, smoked brisket lasagna and Tuscan-marinated steaks.
- The restaurant will be located on Frost Plaza, a community gathering space that is opening this month.
Between the lines: The restaurant name translates to "rock and hammer," which is a reference to the Spurs' "pounding the rock" credo.
What they're saying: Joe Loomis, senior vice president of finance, technology and culinary operations at SS&E, said in a statement that adding Dady's expertise to The Rock will elevate the new development as a destination for locals and visitors.
- "We're passionate about highlighting local talent and flavors in celebration of our community, and under Chef Dady's direction, Roca & Martillo will be a leading example of the culinary excellence that San Antonio has to offer."
- Dady is known for Jardin, Range, Tre Trattoria and Two Bros BBQ Market.
