Richmond's Paix Coffee wins two international medals

State of play: Two days of double-blind judging for the 2026 U.S. & Canada Global Coffee Awards took place in Houston in August, during which the judges don't know the roaster they're tasting.

• The winners were announced earlier this month.

• Richmond roasters competed against others in the U.S. and Canada. The competition has separate regions for Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East and North Africa.

Zoom in: Paix, which got its start as a pop-up coffee cart before opening its cafe in the Museum District, won:

• 🥇 Gold — in the Espresso, Single Origin category for its Ethiopian coffee Sweet Kept Secret.
• 🥈 Silver — in Filter, Natural for its Colombian Concord Intense.

What's next: Overall gold, silver and bronze category winners are invited to the World Championship in Mexico in March.
