Richmond's Arts District is getting a wave of upgrades

State of play: The city and Richmond EDA selected 25 projects for the inaugural Activation & Beautification CARE grant program, per a city news release.

• The initiative is a pilot aimed at making quick, visible improvements in neighborhood business districts.

• A pop-up dog park at 2 W. Broad St.
• A parklet, lighting and pop-up market at 200 W. Marshall St.
• Murals throughout Broad Street, Hull Street and Shockoe Bottom.
• And storefront and façade upgrades in Brookland Park and Church Hill.

Fun fact: Roughly two-thirds of the projects are on and around Broad Street in the Arts District.

• The rest are scattered across Brookland Park, Church Hill, Manchester, Shockoe Bottom and the East End.
