Richmond diners are lining up for 2 new restaurants

Two newly opened Richmond restaurants have quickly become some of the hottest tables in town.
Why it matters: If you don't like waiting in line, you may want to wait a bit before checking them out.
State of play: Antonelli's Deli in the Museum District and Pizzeria Delores in Scott's Addition opened at the end of August.
- They have very different concepts, neighborhoods and hours, but one thing in common: big crowds, long lines and plenty of local buzz.
- Here's what to know.
Zoom in: Antonelli's Deli is an Italian-inspired neighborhood sandwich shop from Superstars Pizza owner Taylor Antonelli and baker Giustino Riccio, formerly behind Galley Market's Giustino's Pizza.
- The deli, in a former dry cleaner at the corners of Patterson and Roseneath, specializes in gourmet sandwiches served on Riccio's housemade bread.
- On the menu: Six speciality sandwiches ($13-$14) including the Rome (salami, capicola and mortadella) and the Liam (turkey, crispy Speck and fontina), plus a few pizzettes (that's small pizzas, $7-8).
- For now, Antonelli's is open Wednesday-Sunday, 11:30am until sellout, but expanded hours, a bigger menu and online ordering are coming soon.
Over in Scott's Addition: Pizzeria Delores, a pop-up turned brick-and-mortar restaurant, is slinging Sicilian-style square pies with big retro vibes.
- Friends and pizza lovers Jacky Welch and Max Sayer leaned into 1970s- and '80s-era pizzerias for the design, per Richmond Magazine — think vintage Pizza Hut, but cooler.
- On the menu: specialty pies like House Pie #1 with ricotta, jalapeños and spicy honey, build-your-own pizzas ($21-$35), plus a handful of house cocktails and beers.
- Pizzeria Delores is open Thursday-Sunday, 5-10pm.
The bottom line: Richmonders have two buzzy new spots to add to their dining lists — assuming they don't mind a wait.
