Tecovas brings cowboy boots to Short Pump

Austin-based cowboy boot brand Tecovas opened its first Richmond store in Short Pump mall last week.
Why it matters: Western wear — and all things country — is having a moment.
State of play: Tecovas got its start at as a web-based direct-to-consumer boot company just over a decade ago and has been rapidly expanding into new retail markets in recent years, Axios Austin reports.
- The social media-fueled resurgence of interest in Western wear, country music and even line dancing helped drive much of the interest in the brand — and its growth, especially outside of the south.
- Two years ago, Tecovas had 31 stores in a handful of states. Now it's in 27 states and the Short Pump store, tucked between the Pottery Barn and Sephora, is its 71st.
Zoom in: Tecovas specializes in cowboy boots, hats, shirts, belts accessories and other western wear.
- With standard cowboy boots generally running just under $400, the store isn't cheap.
- But fans say they love the brand's craftsmanship, quality materials and comparatively affordable boot price point.
