Kura Revolving Sushi Bar opens in Short Pump this week

State of play: The Short Pump Kura opens at noon for its soft opening in the former Persis Indian Grill space in the Trader Joe's shopping center.

On the menu: More than 100 dishes, including traditional sushi rolls like spicy tuna and tiger, plus noodle, ramen and nigiri like American wagyu, garlic ponzu salmon and garlic skipjack tuna.

How it works: A long conveyor belt winds throughout the restaurant, carrying small plates of food and passing by each table, Axios Indianapolis reports.

• Diners open clear plastic pods as they pass, plucking dishes — usually two or three pieces of nigiri or rolls — that start at around $3.95 each.
• Empty plates are discarded through a slot at each table, where they're counted toward the final bill.
• And the best part: return 15 empty sushi plates and you get a "Bikkura Pon" prize.

If you go: Kura is at 11331 W. Broad St. Opening hours are noon-9pm. Regular hours start Friday, but weren't available at press time.
