Pro golf's next chapter in Richmond tees off this fall

The Korn Ferry Tour Championship, a new-to-Richmond pro golf tournament, will tee off at a Hanover County course in just six weeks.
Why it matters: Professional golf in Richmond lives on, marking the 11th consecutive year the PGA Tour will have a presence in the region.
Driving the news: Tournament organizers and Henrico officials gathered at the Arnold Palmer-designed Federal Club in Glen Allen for a media day Monday, kicking off the final month-and-a-half sprint toward the KFT's season-ending championship.
- The top 20 players on the points list at the end of the four-day event will earn their PGA Tour card for next season.
- So the next Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy could be playing Richmond this fall.
By the numbers: The top 60 players on the KFT points list heading into this event will be playing for a $1.5 million purse, with $270,000 going to the winner.
Catch up quick: Since 2016, the Country Club of Virginia had hosted the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, part of the PGA Tour Champions playoff series for pro golfers 50 and older.
- When Dominion and CCV decided not to continue on with the event after last year, local tourism groups came together to keep pro golf in the region for the next four years.
If you go: The Korn Ferry Tour Championship is Oct. 8-11 at The Federal Club.
- Individual grounds tickets start at $32, with fans 18 and under getting in free when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
- All four days of golf action will be broadcast on the Golf Channel; 2-5pm Thursday and Friday, and 1-4pm Saturday and Sunday.
