Is Richmond the new New York City — or the new Miami?

What's happening: The trend has Richmonders saying there's no point in traveling to Central Park or Miami Beach ... because we've got both at home with Monroe Park and the James River.

• Some are taking the bait, jumping in the comments to explain why, actually, Richmond is nothing like the Big Apple or Pitbull's hometown.
• Others are begging for the 804 to stay undiscovered so rent prices don't go up (too late for that though).

How it started: Richmonder Anthony Ganz began making viral (and satirical) videos comparing NYC to Richmond earlier this year. One in June claims we have the superior transit because GRTC buses are free.

• The trend has caught on and other people are making their own comparisons in videos and comments.
• Our Statue of Liberty? The Arthur Ashe monument. Our version of the Met? Well, the VMFA, of course.

• One person even made a "Richmond is the new New York" shirt at T-Shirt Studio in Carytown.

The other side: Another ragebaiting camp says Richmond is the new Miami, with Scott's Addition being Brickell and the Solaire Rooftop view looking just like Miami's skyline.

• This version has resulted in calling RVA "RVMiami" and a locally produced album named "RVAiami"

The bottom line: It's a pick-your-own delusion in a city that loves arguing about what it's becoming: South Beach or Brooklyn.
