Richmond's largest indoor venue lands a new concert

The Siegel Center has landed its first concert since VCU said last year it would start renting out its basketball arena.
Why it matters: Hosting concerts and events is part of VCU's plan to generate new revenue to help pay student athletes.
State of play: Christian rock band Third Day — along with special guest Zach William and show opener Scout and the Saints — will play "the Stu" on April 18, the band announced Friday.
- It's the first concert announced since VCU said in May 2025 that it planned to bring events and concerts back to the arena, VCU spokesperson Mike Porter tells Axios.
Follow the money: VCU projected the effort would bring in around 30 shows and $650,000 a year to put toward paying its athletes.
Yes, but: The April concert isn't the Stu's first event since the plan was announced.
- All Elite Wrestling was there in June, which was the first official show at the Siegel Center since VCU resumed booking outside events, Porter says.
The intrigue: The venue management company VCU contracted for the Siegel Center — Legends Global (formerly ASM Global) — hired a new general manager in June to oversee Siegel events, so the schedule should start ramping up soon, Porter tells Axios.
Flashback: Concerts and other events were originally a regular occurrence at the Siegel Center after it opened in 1999.
- Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Sheryl Crow, Ludacris, Trey Songz, Nickelback and Dave Matthews were among the artists that played there, largely for VCU's homecoming.
- But eventually the shows tapered off and the Stu has largely been concert-free. Until now.
Fun fact: At roughly 200,000 square feet, the Siegel Center can seat just over 7,600 people, which makes it Richmond's largest indoor concert venue.
What's next: Tickets to the Third Day show go on sale on Aug. 14 at noon.
- Ticket prices weren't available, but they've been around $28 in other cities.
