The culprit behind the "In Your Face Fireworks" mishap at the Flying Squirrels game last week has been identified: a Roman candle.
Why it matters: The error led to fireworks heading horizontally into the crowd, looking like the time-traveling DeLorean from "Back to the Future" and sending fans scrambling for cover.
Driving the news: The incident, which has since gone viral online, was caused by the Roman candle falling over, Squirrels owner Lou DiBella told the RTD.
- The candle is a long tube that launches a series of fireworks into the air.
- It's unclear how it collapsed, but no injuries have been reported so far.
The Squirrels declined to comment further.
- Pyro Shows — which runs the popular postgame fireworks displays and acknowledged the pyrotechnic malfunction — referred Axios to an updated statement from president Mike Walden.
