Thomas Jefferson's boyhood home in Goochland County just hit the market.
Why it matters: If you have $17 million lying around, it could be yours.
Driving the news: Historic Tuckahoe, formerly Tuckahoe Plantation, was listed for sale on Monday.
- The circa 1733 five-bedroom, three-bathroom home sits on more than 500 acres overlooking the James, but it's most impressive because of the seven years a tiny founding father spent there.
- Included in the sale are still-standing outbuildings, including a schoolhouse built by Jefferson's father, the old kitchen, smokehouse, storehouse, barn, overseer's office and the quarters where enslaved people lived, per the listing.
- The outbuildings make it one of the most complete early 18th-century plantations still around in North America.
In recent years, the home has been available for private tours, venue rentals and as location for the Revolutionary War series "Turn."
Fun fact: This is the first time in nearly 100 years that Tuckahoe has been listed for sale, BizSense reports.
- The family that's owned the property since 1935 told BizSense that it's been "privilege" to be stewards of the historic site.
