State of play: Increasingly hot temperatures will last through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Wednesday and Saturday look to be the worst of it. On those days the heat index — or "feels like" temperature — will reach a high of 107 and 105 degrees respectively.
Unlike the last heat wave, the actual temperature isn't forecasted to break 100 degrees any day, though.
Richmond is under an "elevated risk" for extreme heat through Saturday, per the NWS, which means heat exhaustion is likely after prolonged time outside.
Zoom out: Nationwide, NOAA forecasters expect record-breaking highs of 95 to 105 across the northern Plains, Midwest and Northeast through midweek, Axios' Alex Fitzpatrick reports.
Over 128 million Americans are under a heat warning, watch or advisory.
What's next: Temperatures should get back to Richmond's low-90s July normal starting Sunday.
So next week it will once again just be regular gross hot and humid here, instead of dangerously so.
