Engaged Richmond couples are ditching the ballroom, unless it's inside Hotel John Marshall — which once had Elizabeth Taylor and Elvis Presley as guests.

Why it matters: They're looking for venues with "a lot of personality" instead, Emily Forrest, a spokesperson for wedding website Zola, told Axios.

The big picture: The most popular wedding venues in metro Richmond last year, according to Zola data provided to Axios, were:

The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing (talk about waterfront sunsets, am I right?)
Linden Row Inn, a historic boutique hotel on East Franklin.
No. 303, formerly Common House, which is known for its rooftop and courtyard space.

Honorable mentions: Lewis Ginter, Quirk Hotel, the John Marshall Ballrooms and — for couples who love the morbid and macabre — the Edgar Allan Poe Museum.
