Why Jill Biden was spotted around Richmond last month

Driving the news: The former first lady was apparently here to celebrate her Aunt Barbara's 89th birthday, per a social media post from Biden.

• As part of the celebration, Biden — along with her aunt, daughter-in-law, sisters, her aunt's son and a security detail — stopped into the Richmond Animal League in Chesterfield shelter that Saturday afternoon, Newsweek reports.
• They were looking for a cat for Aunt Barbara and came away with "Milk," a kitty with feline leukemia virus who was found outside over the winter and last month found a new home with Barbara.
• "It was wild and ... [a] huge, wonderful boost for our team and volunteers," RAL director Larry Eason tells Axios.

Zoom in: Biden was also spotted dining on the patio of Latitude Seafood Co.'s Hull Street location, per creeper shots posted to social.

• "She was extremely pleasant, gracious to the staff, and we were glad she chose to spend part of her visit at Latitude," restaurant co-owner Kevin Grubbs tells Axios, calling her visit an honor.

• "Regardless of politics, having a former first lady visit a local Chesterfield restaurant is something we think is pretty cool and something the staff appreciated very much," he adds.

What we're watching: Whether Melania Trump or Michelle Obama pop into town to rescue a local fur baby for any of their relatives.
