Richmond's Maymont debuts rescued baby coyotes

Richmond finally has some new baby animals to fawn over.
Why it matters: They're coyotes, one of them is named Bernie and you can soon see them at Maymont.
Driving the news: The rescued coyote pups will make their public debut Saturday as part of Maymont's newly reopened Virginia Wildlife Trail.
- Bernie is a 1-year-old Eastern coyote from Pittsburgh (we wonder if he's a Steelers fan) and loves lounging in hollowed logs.
- Bernie's friend is a 4-month-old Western coyote rescued in San Diego. She'll be named May 16 by a donor.
Zoom in: Both were found orphaned or abandoned and "too young to fend for themselves," per a release.
- The pair soon became too attached to humans to be released despite rehabilitation efforts, which means Maymont will be their forever home.
Fun fact: Coyotes started popping up in Virginia in the 1970s and they love keeping rodents at bay … by eating them.
What's next: Visitors can see both pups on Maymont's just reopened Virginia Wildlife Trail (free), though Bernie's friend will alternate between there and the Robins Nature Center for now.
