Richmond among cheapest for DoorDash breakfast basics

By the numbers: It cost Richmonders around $2.67 for a basket of breakfast basics, per DoorDash's Q1 report.

• "Breakfast basics," per DoorDash, are three eggs, a glass of milk, one bagel and an avocado.
• It's also the second-cheapest breakfast order out of the transactions DoorDash reviewed across 100 cities (Greensboro was the cheapest at $2.60).
• And our cost is well below the $3.91 national average.

Reality check: We tested DoorDash's stat by creating the same order and the cheapest we found for the basic was about $3.83 a person (assuming with a dozen eggs we were ordering for four) — and that was without tip.

Yes, but: Many of the local grocers were offering BOGO deals on eggs and avocados, so we might've been able to get the per person cost lower if we bought in bulk.

• But, but, but: Any savings we get from a DoorDash breakfast we lose on burgers.
• DoorDashing a fast food cheeseburger, fries and soda will cost a Richmonder an average $16.85, per the report.

The bottom line: We'll stick to eggs.
