The organizers of this weekend's sold-out Richmond Renaissance Faire are warning locals about bogus resale tickets circulating online.
Why it matters: They're not real, organizers tell Axios, and fake tickets won't be honored.
State of play: The Richmond Ren Faire, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday at Dorey Park, sold out last month.
- Now, Facebook groups are popping up, advertising resale tickets and, in some cases, promising that the tickets are legit and verified.
They're not, Ash Moore, the event's managing director, tells Axios.
- Local nonprofit Virago Alley, the group behind the event, has been reporting the scam groups.
- But they still seem to be live, and growing, Moore adds.
Yes, but: There are three other Ren Faire-related events locals can participate in — and tickets are still available for those, Moore says.
- There's an after party Saturday and Sunday at Gallery5, 7-11pm. Tickets for each are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.
- And Coalition Theater is hosting a Ren Faire-inspired Roll4Improv on Saturday, 7-8:30pm. $12.
Catch up quick: Virago Alley started working on the festival last year with two kick-off and fundraising events in March and July. The mini festivals were all leading to the big one this weekend.
- Tickets went on sale late last year and sold out March 31.
Fun fact: The event has capacity for 7,500 people each day, Moore says.
What we're watching: Organizers say they'll review their resale ticket policy and availability for next year.
