It's the first of Richmond's St. Paddy's Day weekends and the Virginia Derby. Phew.
Thursday, March 12
🐎 There's three days of horse racing starting Thursday at Colonial Downs that lead up to the Virginia Derby on Saturday. The days start at noon. General admission is $5.
- Fun fact: It's the state's only qualifying race for the Kentucky Derby.
Friday, March 13
🍷 Dinner Party in Carytown has a "Girl Power" wine class, featuring four women-made wines and sharing stories about the winemakers behind them. 6-7:30pm. $75.
🖼️ The Watkins at Shockoe has a pop-up gallery running through March 21 that includes original artwork from over 20 artists, including muralists Hamilton Glass and Matt Lively. Friday is opening night from 6-8pm. Free but RSVPs encouraged.
🍻 Industrial Taphouse in Ashland is having a "Bad & Boozy" weekend through Saturday with live music, Irish specials, yard games and more. 6:30pm on Friday; 1:30pm on Saturday. Free.
🎷 Saxsquatch will be at the Broadberry as part of his Party Animal tour. 7pm. Tickets start at $33.78.
🎶 The Tin Pan in Henrico has an R&B tribute to Lauryn Hill and Brandy. 8pm. $48.81.
Saturday, March 14
🥧 Minglewood Bake Shop in Carytown has a "Laska Vintage Pop-Up" to celebrate Pi day with $3.14 pie slices. 10am-5pm through Sunday. Free unless you buy a slice.
☠️ Richmond World Oddities Expo is back at the Greater Richmond Convention Center through Sunday featuring all things weird and macabre. 11am-7pm. Tickets start at $20 for general admission.
🇮🇪 Siné also has its 27th Annual St. Patrick's Day Block Party with a party tent, green beer and Irish food. 11am. Free.
🐂 Conex RVA in Carver has its "Get Lucked" celebration with live bands, Irish dancers, $1 green beer and free mechanical bull rides. 11am-11pm. Free, but reserve your spot.
☘️ It's about that time once again: Shamrock the Block is celebrating its 20th year and taking over Leigh Street. Noon-6pm. Free.
🥳 Center of the Universe Brewing in Ashland is celebrating with an Irish festival. Noon-8pm. Free.
🍾 There's also a St. Patrick's Day bar crawl starting at Bandito's in the Museum District. 1pm.. Tickets start at $26.55.
🍸 And another bar crawl that starts at New York Deli at 4pm and ends at Skybox starting at 9pm. $29.69.
🪩 Then there's Ember Music Hall's "Paddy's Rave." 9:30pm. $27.
Sunday, March 15
🐶 Decompress from the weekend with a pop-up pet adoption event at the Henrico County Animal Shelter. It includes guinea pigs. 10am-noon. $10 same-day adoption fee.
🥪 Get some sandwiches, green jell-o shots and corned beef at Benchtop Brewing's St. Patrick's Day-themed pop-up on Hull Street. Noon-5pm. Free.
🌅 Join a sunset run club at 6201 River Road and make some friends! All paces are welcome. 6:45pm. Free.
