"Greetings from Richmond" mural to return after vanishing last year

The latest: Now, muralists Mickael Broth and Ross Trimmer want to recreate the postcard-style mural that had been on the side of a Broad Street building in the Arts District for nearly a decade.

• "Both of us believe strongly in a shared sense of space and creating things that feel authentic to our community identity," Broth tells Axios about why they've decided to do this.
• "The original mural clearly became something that people connected with."

Yes, but: The artists need a wall.

• Last week, they put a call out on social media to start the search.
• The requirements: a medium-to-large-scale wall with public visibility and access (so people can take pictures in front of it) and an owner commitment to keep the mural up for at least five years.

Zoom in: Dozens of people commented underneath the posts with suggestions on where to place it, like Conex in Carver or Clay Street Market in Church Hill.

• Some businesses — like Brambly Park, Powers BMX Shop, Benny Ventanos and Parlor Salon — signaled interest in having it.

• But nothing is finalized yet, Broth tells Axios.

Flashback: The mural on Broad Street was one of the last visible remnants of the city's 2020 protests, which lasted more than 100 days.

• It was initially commissioned by the owner of Charm School ice cream shop in 2016 and featured popular city landscapes before Broth and Trimmer updated the piece four years later.
