Locals are still contending with mail delivery and trash pickup delays as the region recovers from the major winter storm that ripped through the area late last month.
Why it matters: Richmonders are beyond fed-up with delays now, nearly two full weeks since the storm passed.
State of play: Here's the latest on what's happening and efforts to get things back to normal:
📭 Mail delivery
Across metro Richmond, some residents as of Thursday still hadn't gotten mail since before the storm began, per comments peppering social media threads and neighborhood groups.
- There are long lines at post offices for folks who've gone in search of their mail, per the posts, and at some offices a note on the door advising residents that clerks can't pull mail intended for delivery.
- In a statement, a USPS spokesperson said routes remain impacted from the storm and carriers "will make every reasonable attempt to deliver mail, but only where it is safe to do so."
- "Following inclement weather, we ask customers to clear snow, ice and debris away from their mailbox and front porch so delivery can take place safely," the statement continued. The spokesperson didn't respond to additional questions.
🗑️ Trash pickup
In the city, crews are working 6-day schedules until they're caught up, per the city.
- City residents who pull their cans to the street should keep them there until the trash is collected.
- For alley pick up, the city said some alleyways could be inaccessible due to ice. Those "will be assessed by team supervisors."
In Henrico, trash pick up is back to normal for home serviced Wednesday-Friday, the county said.
- Crews will work this weekend to collect trash from homes usually serviced on Monday and Tuesday. Those households should keep their cans on the curb.
- If folks can't wait, the county is waiving drop-off fees through Feb. 20 at its two public use locations.
♻️ Recycling
Households still waiting on recycling pickup from the winter storm will have to wait until their next scheduled pickup, says Central Virginia Waste Management Authority.
Of note: Trash pickup in Hanover and Chesterfield is through private companies.
🚏Buses
GRTC said Thursday its routes are finally back to normal.
