Parking enforcement in Scott's Addition is back starting Jan. 5.
Why it matters: Nothing says "Happy New Year" like a parking ticket.
Catch up quick: The city hasn't enforced parking in Scott's since the pandemic began in 2020.
- But the neighborhood association voted this summer to update the rules in response to an increase in traffic, per a city statement released Friday.
- The goal is to free up spaces for shoppers and workers by preventing cars from staying put all day.
Between the lines: Most of Scott's Addition will still be free, unlimited parking, per a difficult-to-read city map.
- The "No Parking" zones are largely around the neighborhood's edges (Broad Street and Arthur Ashe), the intersection of Norfolk and Belleville streets and Patton Avenue by the CSX Railroad.
- The rest is a mix of 1- to 3-hour parking limits, paid zones and loading areas.
The two-hour free spots:
- The four-block perimeter around Stella's Grocery and Vasen.
- West Leigh Street by Starr Hill and Tazza Kitchen.
- Part of Summit Avenue near Afterglow Coffee and by the ABC store.
Three-hour free zones: About two blocks of Summit Avenue near Parlay Bar.
