Gwar's Blöthar auctioned off a signed bidet to John Oliver

Catch up quick: The "Last Week Tonight" host launched johnoliversjunk.com last month to raise money for PBS and NPR stations after Congress cut $1.1 billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

By the numbers: Variety reports the auction raised over $1.5 million for the Public Media Bridge Fund, which is helping local broadcasters offset some of the funding losses.

• Blöthar the Berserker's bidet, which nearly 60 people bid on, went for over $6,000 by the time the auction closed last week.

What they're saying: "Public radio is a national treasure," Blöthar said in an interview with Heavy Consequence, citing "Sesame Street" and "Mr. Rogers."

• "It's a damn shame to just throw it in the toilet."
