L.A. transplant opens jazzy Fan spot Cahoots

A former L.A. restaurant operator who specialized in creating affordable, vibey bars on the west coast has landed in town.

Why it matters: He recently opened his first Richmond restaurant, Cahoots, on the corner of Floyd and Robinson in the Fan.

State of play: David DeLuca and his wife moved to Richmond a few years ago (they have family here) for a better place to settle down and raise their kids.

The couple stumbled on the vacant restaurant space at 2526 Floyd Ave., most recently Mike's Jazz Cafe, and knew it'd be perfect for their first local venture, DeLuca tells Axios.
Cahoots opened in early November and if Instagram posts are any indication, it's already shaping up to be a hot spot.

Zoom in: Like at DeLuca's L.A. bars, Cahoots keeps the atmosphere low-key and welcoming, with an approachable menu and live jazz.

On the (soft-opening chalkboard) menu: Pimento cheese, fish and chips, crab imperial, burgers, Po'boys and snacks.
Beers run $4-$6.
Food: $6-$17.

If you go: Sunday-Thursday, 5pm-midnight and Friday-Saturday, 4pm-2am.
