Virginia's 1.83-pound peach breaks world record

Sorry-not-sorry Georgians, but the new "world's heaviest peach" was grown in Virginia, not "The Peach State" — at least that's what Guinness World Records experts say.
State of play: In September, Guinness certified that Chiles Peach Orchard in Crozet, and fifth-generation farmer Henry Chiles, had grown a whopper of a stone fruit, the Daily Progress reports.
- Weighing in at 1.83 pounds, Chiles' peach barely ousted the previous record holder: a 1.8-pounder grown in Georgia, online records indicate.
- That poundage makes it "nearly six times heavier" than the average farm-grown peach, the Daily Progress notes.
- The Crozet measured 6 inches tall and 15.5 inches in circumference, making it larger than a softball.
What they're saying: Chiles credited spring and summer growing conditions for his thick peach.
What's next: The farm is making a replica of its record-setting fruit and hopes to have it on display in time for peach season 2026, which starts in June.
