Tazza Kitchen team brings The Granite Grill to Bon Air on Friday

The Granite Grill restaurant opens Friday in the Stony Point Shopping Center in Bon Air.
Why it matters: Southsiders have been hungry for a new option in that strip since Southbound closed last year.
State of play: The Granite is a new concept from the Tazza Kitchen and Conejo folks that's basically an updated take on the classic American grill (think Applebee's, but much, much better).
- The former Nuevo Mexico space is now moody and spacious, with ample booth seating, an open kitchen, massive bar, an adjacent patio and a private dining space.
On the menu: Apps like house-made focaccia and spinach and artichoke dip ($8.95-$19.95); burgers, sandwiches and salads (including crispy fish, fried chicken and a wedge salad, $12.50-$18.95) and a full cocktail menu.
- Entrees include fresh fish and crab cakes ($26.95-$33.95), hand-cut steaks ($34.95-$47.95) and house specialties including eggplant parmesan, roast chicken and a Mediterranean harvest bowl ($17.95-$32.95).
Zoom in: The Granite is starting with daily dinner service for now. But lunch, happy hour and takeout orders will start the first week of December.
- Keep an eye out for brunch and private dining books in the new year.
If you go: The Granite Grill opens at 4:30pm nightly.
- Reservations are accepted, but it's fully booked on Friday and Saturday of opening weekend.
