ChatGPT says Richmond, Va. is the Beyoncé of all Richmonds

State of play: Our colleague recently asked the chatbot to rank America's Richmonds after we flagged again that the one mentioned in a national article was not our Richmond.

• It crowned No. 1 for our Civil War and civil rights history, mural-covered streets, James River views and "foodie heaven" status.
• "If Richmond, VA were a person, it would know it's hot and not be afraid to tell you."

Zoom out: Richmond, California came in second as the Bay Area's "edgy hipster cousin" — a take our Axios San Francisco colleagues called "a bit of a stretch, to say the least."

• The one in Kentucky, with a population of less than 40,000 people, got the bronze for its college-town bourbon charm.
• The rest, scattered across 40 states from Missouri and Minnesota to Rhode Island and Oregon, were deemed mostly for golf carts, cornfields and fishing.

Fun fact: There are at least three Richmonds in Virginia, including a Richmond Beach in Tappahannock.

• And some people still regularly get Richmond County confused with Richmond city.

Reality check: Ours is the American original, and the only one specifically named after Richmond, England.

The bottom line: No one does it like us.
