Edgar Allan Poe returns in AR as Richmond's creepiest tour guide

State of play: Richmond Region Tourism recently launched an augmented reality tour of the region's spookiest spots using "the spirit" of famed (and long-dead) poet Edgar Allan Poe.

• Local tech firm Shockoe animated his bust from the Poe Museum into AR Poe, just in time for spooky season.
• He even has his own, equally creepy, animated raven perched atop his shoulder.

How it works: Visit the site — shockoe.8thwall.app/poe-museum — click anywhere, and Poe will come to life and share facts about himself or quote parts of his famous poem, "The Raven."

• There are also two tour options users can try: An introduction to the Poe Museum or an overview of RRT's "Mysterious & Spooky Richmond Region" self-guided tour.
• Highlight spots on that tour include Hollywood Cemetery, the haunted Hanover Tavern and Historic St. John's Church, where Poe's mom is buried.
