A Richmond business is turning porches into pumpkin patches

Driving the news: The passion project launched this month and came about after Rabiger was laid off in January, BizSense first reported.

• Rabiger, whose nickname is "Pumpkin-in-Chief," told Axios that she saw similar services in cities like Chicago and Denver and shaped the pricing based off their models.
• The business also offers to set up, decorate and remove the locally-sourced pumpkins for additional costs.
• "There's a market for people who want you to do it all for them," Rabiger said to BizSense, noting families who might be too busy to grab the pumpkins themselves.

By the numbers: Patch to Porch has four main packages, per its site.

• $300: 28 pumpkins, corn stalks and straw bales are extra.
• $450: 44 pumpkins and gourds.
• $775: 62 pumpkins, a straw bale, design and setup.
• $1,275: 96 pumpkins, including jumbo-sized ones, straw bales and design, setup and removal.

Zoom in: Outside of the 96-pumpkin package, removal costs $150-$200 depending on the week.

• Deliveries to Henrico or Chesterfield are $50 (free for Richmonders) unless you get the most expensive package.
