Richmond scorches but sets no heat records

While it felt like Richmonders were living directly on the face of the sun during last week's "heat dome," there wasn't a single daily heat record set or even tied here.
Why it matters: Heat records were broken in more than 494 locations across the U.S. and tied in another 169 between last Sunday and Wednesday, NOAA data shows.
By the numbers: Here's how the temperatures shook out in Richmond, per the National Weather Service.
- Monday: High of 97, below the 101°F, record of 1988.
- Tuesday: Hit 99 degrees, shy of the 102 record set in 2010.
- Wednesday: High was 99 degrees, under the 100 record set in 1952.
- Thursday: Hit 98 degrees, nowhere near the 104 record set in 1952, which sounds like a miserable summer.
Yes, but: In Richmond, the humidity is always the issue, not the temperature, and it sure felt like the hottest week we've ever experienced.
The bottom line: We survived. Just in time for July.
