"Sanctuary jurisdictions" list that included Richmond and Hanover is removed

The big picture: President Trump has threatened to strip sanctuary cities of federal funding, and the pulled list is sparking confusion about whether those named are at risk.

Catch up quick: More than two dozen cities and counties across Virginia were added to the sanctuary jurisdictions' list last Thursday, including Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover.

• DHS initially defined these localities as ones "obstructing immigration enforcement."

Yes, but: None of the Richmond-area localities included on the now-deleted list consider themselves sanctuary cities, WTVR reports.

• Hanover County, where residents overwhelmingly voted for Trump in the last three elections, pushed back on its inclusion on the list.
• "The Sheriff's Office cooperates fully with Immigration and Customs Enforcement whenever assistance is requested," the county wrote in a news release.

Gov. Youngkin, who recently appeared with Attorney General Pamela Bondi to tout the number of ICE arrests on his watch, told WTVR that localities mentioned on the DHS list should take the opportunity to clarify their stance on immigration enforcement.

What they're saying: DHS tells Axios in a statement that the list is "being constantly reviewed and can be changed at any time and will be updated regularly."
