Richmond police chief sent to driving school for reckless driving

The consequences: $87 in court costs and $75 for an 8-hour driving course, paid for with his own money, RPD spokesperson James Mercante told Axios.

• Edwards, who told reporters about the Jan. 15 ticket the day after he got it, pleaded no contest at his Feb. 12 hearing, preemptively finished the course on Jan. 28 and had the reckless driving charge dropped as a result.

Mercante also said Edwards had a perfect driving record with 5+ points, the highest possible for Virginia's points system.
