Shaq DM'd Richmond rapper Chandler — now they have a song together

• And when Chandler casually said they should collaborate, Shaq agreed.
• They began putting the song together within days.

The latest: That song, a remix of Chandler and Richmond producer TuffLuckKid's "OUT THERE," came out on Friday — a day before the local rapper is having his send-off party at The Broadberry.

• Like the song, which was produced and engineered by locals, his final concert in the South (for now) is a love letter to Richmond's music scene.
• The showcase will include Richmond artists like Lunch $pecial, Kaay Taurus and O-Z.

Fun fact: The 757 native, who's lived in Richmond on and off for a decade, still works with some of the same sound engineers, producers and light technicians that he collaborated with when he was 16.

• He's repeatedly gone viral on TikTok, perhaps most famously for the line: "Don't ask me how I did it, I just did it was hard."

• Now he's working with the only professional athlete to be a certified platinum-selling rapper. Shaq's songs have featured Snoop Dogg and the Notorious B.I.G.

What's next: Chandler is headed to New York, but he wants to make one thing clear.

• "It's not like I'm gonna go to New York and start repping New York," Chandler told Axios. "I'm going to go up to New York and I'm going to be the guy from Virginia."
