Boulevard Burger & Brew is back in business after four long months of renovations, sans the car that crashed through it in October.
Why it matters: The new and improved BBB now has a bigger patio and a dedicated milkshake takeout window.
State of play: The Scott's Addition restaurant has been closed since Oct. 12, the day after a driver lost control of their car and plowed through the restaurant's patio, front doors and much of the dining room.
- The initial estimates had the restaurant hopefully reopening in two or three months, or at least in time for BBB's 10th anniversary in January.
Yes, but: January was a nightmare in RVA (see also, water crisis, three snow storms and an earthquake), so the delayed opening was probably for the best.
Zoom in: The longer timetable gave the restaurant more time to build out the expanded patio, which is double the size of the old, BBB owner and Eat Restaurant Partners owner Chris Tsui tells Axios.
- "It might be bigger than PBR's on Cary," he said, referring to the patio at his Fan District pizza place.
- Plus, the group was able to add a takeout window for all 11 flavors of their signature milkshakes and their eight boozy adult versions.
- The window allows locals to pick up one (or 10) milkshakes on their way to a baseball game, or just an afternoon of wandering in Scott's Addition, Tsui said.
What's next: Keep an eye out for live music on the massive patio in warmer weather.
