If you're looking for love in RVA, you're in luck — just over half (51.6%) of Richmond area residents 20 and older are single, per the latest census data.
- That's higher than the national and state average of around 49%.
Why it matters: The Richmond area's single rate translates into over half a million people (possibly) looking to mingle.
Yes, but: Those stats don't breakdown evenly between the sexes.
By the numbers: 54.1% of area women 20 and older are single compared to 48.9% of men.
- Yes, you read that right.
Zoom in: The situation is even worse in the counties, especially in Chesterfield, where 60.6% of women are single vs. 51.6% of men.
- In Henrico, 54.5% of women are unmarried compared to just 47.4% of men.
- Unsurprisingly, Hanover residents settle down: 43.3% of women are single there vs. 37.3% of men.
- And Richmonders do not settle. In the city, 72.4% of women are single compared to 69.1% of men 20 and older.
Zoom out: 💀 Ladies, if you're looking to relocate somewhere in state with a lot of single men, try Greensville County where nearly 80% of men are single.
- The county is also home to the state's largest prison.
How it works: These figures include people who have never been married, plus those who were married at one point but have since gotten divorced or separated, or have been widowed.
Worth noting: Just because someone is unmarried doesn't mean they're single and available (we hope).
The bottom line: It seems like a good (single) man is hard to find in RVA, but nearly impossible in 'burbs.
