Late-night coffee run led to Richmond couple's 7-Eleven wedding in 1996

Seeing a picture of a bride and groom walking through a Manakin Taco Bell drive-thru this weekend has us reminiscing about the time a couple got married at a Richmond 7-Eleven.

Why it matters: Their 28th wedding anniversary would be this Saturday.

The big picture: It was Dec. 14, 1996 and the groom Owen Tate waited for his future wife Myrtle Bond next to the Slurpee fountain.

The 7-Eleven on the corner of Sheppard and Patterson near Monument Avenue was where the childhood friends found each other again in their 40s, per the Richmond Times-Dispatch's archives.
Tate had come in for a 3am cup of coffee during Bond's shift — and the rest was history.

The intrigue: Several people have gotten married at a 7-Eleven over the years, per the chain's Instagram.

Taco Bell has also embraced the wedding craze, and offers wedding packages at their Las Vegas cantina location, complete with a Taco Bell Sauce Packet bouquet.
