Richmonders Liz Bowden and Josh Crowley wanted to take cold plunges and hot saunas and make them mobile — so they did.
Why it matters: If you have water to fill the plunges and the space to fit a barrel-looking sauna, you can rent both and have them delivered to your home that same day.
The big picture: Sauna Plunge RVA, which started about three months ago, handles the delivery, setup and cleanup after you book online.
- And since launching, Crowley told Axios people have booked the sauna and plunges for birthdays, anniversary parties and family gatherings.
How it works: You sauna it up for up to 20 minutes, cold plunge for up to three minutes and repeat that three times, per Style Weekly.
- The process is called "contrast therapy," which involves quickly alternating between hot and cold temperatures.
- Saunas can help with stress management and relaxation.
- Cold therapy has long been touted for its potential health benefits, from boosting the immune system to helping muscle recovery.

What they're saying: "It's challenging, and that's kind of the point," Crowley said. "But also, just like in life, there's so many wonderful things that can come from brief discomfort … that's kind of where a lot of the wonderful things in life can be unlocked."
If you go: For one sauna and up to two plunges, it's $350 for the first day and $175 for each additional day.
- For two saunas and up to four plunges: $680 per day then $200 for every day after that.
What's next: Crowley said they're in talks with breweries about hosting events onsite next year, but it's too soon to share which ones.
