The first Virginia location of Ford's Garage, a 1920s gas station and car-themed restaurant chain, is now open in Short Pump.
Why it matters: The restaurant leans hard into its automotive theme, complete with vintage cars dangling over the bar, napkins made from shop towels, mechanic-shirt-clad servers and onion rings served on oil funnels.
- The rustic vibes extend to the bathrooms, too, where sinks are made from tires and fuel pump nozzles and urinals, at least in some locations, are fashioned out of old beer kegs.
The big picture: The first Ford's Garage opened in Florida in 2012; today, there are 30 locations across nine states (though more than 20 of those are in the sunshine state).
- Ford's Richmond location is in the former MPM Tiki Bar/ Mimi's Café space in West Broad Village.
On the menu: Burgers a dozen ways, sandwiches (like a burnt-ends brisket melt and Monte Cristo), meat-heavy entrees (steaks, ribs and meatloaf), a smattering of salads, and plenty of draft beer.
- Most sandwiches are in the low teens; most entrees are $20 or less.
Worth noting: The restaurant chain is heavy on vibes and atmosphere, but it seems to have decent online food reviews, too, an important factor since if you have any car enthusiasts (or small children) in your life, you'll likely end up trying it.
