When it comes to Richmond radio listeners, R&B and hip hop rule the airwaves.
Why it matters: Richmonders may disagree on a lot of things, but they seem to come together over a love of R&B and hip hop, at least according to radio ratings.
The big picture: Richmond's R&B and classic soul station, 99.3/105.7 KISS, and 106.5 The Beat, RVA's hip hop and R&B station, have battled it out for the No. 1 spot in the radio rankings since the summer.
That's according to Radio Online, which uses Nielsen ratings to track the top stations in every market in the U.S.
Zoom in: KISS FM surged to the top spot in August and September and held onto it in October, ousting 106.5 The Beat, which held the the top spot in June and July, based on the share of listeners to either station.
While those two jockeyed for first place, K95 Country and Classic Rock on 96.5 — which each held the No. 3 spot at some point over the summer — both lost out in September to VPM, Richmond's public radio station.
By October, WRVA talk radio had surged to No. 3 while VPM dropped down to fifth place.
What's next: November ratings should be out in about a month, so we'll see where it all stands soon.
