Richmond area voters decided incumbent and Democrat Rep. Jennifer McClellan should keep her seat in Congress.
She defeated Republican challenger Bill Moher, an Arlington consultant, on Election Day, the Associated Press reported.
The big picture: McClellan was heavily favored to win the November election in the deep blue congressional district.
Virginia's 4th Congressional District includes all of the city of Richmond, plus the rest of Henrico and Chesterfield, and all the Tri-Cities. It continues south through the state and is considered solidly Democratic, according to VPAP.
Zoom in: Moher tried to run in the 7th District earlier this year but failed to qualify for the ballot, per the Times-Dispatch.
McClellan won her seat for the first time last year — following the 2022 death of Rep. Donald McEachin — and became the first Black woman from Virginia to be elected to Congress.
