GRTC's North-South Rapid Transit line is continuing to take shape, and now transit folks are focusing on stop locations and lane design.
Why it matters: The new bus line will change the look and feel of the city along the route, and there are just a few days left for locals to weigh in on the online survey.
Catch up quick: The route will connect Chesterfield and Henrico to the city via Chamberlayne north of the river and Hull and Midlothian to the south.
The latest: That portion's basically a done deal, but what's left to decide is where the stops will be along the route, plus whether the bus will run on the median or curbside of the street.
Zoom in: GRTC's survey asks locals to share where each station should go along the line, plus flag any concerns about traffic, property, parking or tree canopies within the footprint.
- For example: On which block of Chamberlayne in Northside, Leigh in Jackson Ward, Commerce in Manchester, and Hull and Midlo in South Richmond should the bus stop go?
- The survey is available online through Sunday, Oct. 13 (that Sept. 30 deadline you see on there is wrong, GRTC tells Axios.).
If you prefer to communicate in person, GRTC will have three more public meetings next week: Wednesday, Oct. 16, 9-11am, at Richmond Urban Ministry Institute, Thursday, Oct. 17 (9-11am) at First Baptist Church of South Richmond and 2-4pm at the main Richmond Public Library.
What's next: The North-South line is a multiphase, multiyear process, with construction on the route slated to begin in 2029 at the earliest.
