A neighborhood cat tour is coming to Richmond in November.
Why it matters: The tour is simply a neighborhood wandering, cat-peeping exercise in pure joy — all in celebration of those furry little tyrants that allow humans to live in their homes.
The big picture: Inspired by similar events in other cities, newbie cat owner Sara Kendle decided to organize RVA Cat Tour for the Fan District this fall.
- The OG cat tour seems to be the one in Minneapolis, which started in 2017 and has grown to include hundreds of attendees and dozens of kitties.
- But it was the inaugural tour this year in Toronto that gave Kendle the idea to bring it here.
Zoom in: Kendle is a dog person who achieved her life-long dream of owning a cat in May when she took over ownership of Bear and ZuZu from her neighbor who was moving overseas.
- She quickly fell in love with their "big personalities" and adorable antics, so when she saw the Toronto tour while "doom-scrolling" Instagram, she knew she had to bring one here.
How it works: Fan District cat owners sign up to be on the tour.
- In other cities, owners usually create little posters about their cats to hang outside their windows and presumably coax, cajole and/or beg their feline to cooperate by lounging near the window on tour day.
- Attendees simply show up, wander the route (which will be posted closer to the date) and bask in the cuteness. There's a $5 suggestion donation that will benefit Tiny Paws RVA, but it'll be pay-what-you-can, and if that's zero, that's fine by Kendle.
- Details: RVA Cat Tour is on November 9 in the Fan at 11am. It'll end when the cats say it will. Probably.
