Virginia's athletes dominate 2024 Paris Olympics

• Those medals account for 10% of the 126 medals Team USA won overall.
• At least three dozen Olympians were current, former or incoming student-athletes at Virginia schools, though not all were on Team USA.
• But we're claiming them anyway.

Fun fact: Athletes with UVA ties have earned so many medals that "if the UVA community were a country, we would be ranked 13th in terms of medals won," president Jim Ryan tweeted last week.

• With the final 14-medal count, they'd be 16th.

Some of Virginia's gold medalists:

🥳 Charlie Swanson, Team USA's only Richmonder, won in the mixed 4x100-meter medley relay.

🏆 Kate Douglass, who went to UVA, won in the women's 200-meter breaststroke and broke her own record.

⚽️ Emily Fox, an Ashburn native, won the gold alongside the U.S. women's soccer team, getting redemption after a quarterfinal elimination in the 2021 Tokyo Games.

👟 Grant Holloway won in the 110-meter hurdles and became the first athlete from Chesapeake to win an Olympic event solo, per the Virginian-Pilot.

💪 Torri Huske from Arlington has three gold medals from the mixed and women's 4x100 medley relay and the women's 100-meter butterfly — plus two silver medals.

💨 Noah Lyles, Alexandria's track-and-field star, is now known as "the fastest man in the world" after winning the men's 100-meter race.

🏊‍♀️ Gretchen Walsh, a UVA student, won in the mixed 4x100 relay and the women's 4x100 relay and set an Olympic record for the women's 100-meter butterfly.
