More exciting new restaurants are in the works for Richmond.
Why it matters: The local dining scene seems to be hotter than ever, and new restaurants means more places to eat.
Let's hop to it.
📚Abi's Books & Brews, a coffee shop and bookstore concept, is now running its soft opening at 1212 1/2 W. Cary St. near VCU.
- Espresso-based coffee drinks, pastries and gelato are on the menu, with a side of a variety of gently used books for purchase and a few that can be checked out, including titles banned in Hanover County schools, Richmond Magazine reports.
- Abi's also hopes to be a spot for night owls, open weekdays until 8pm and until 10pm on the weekends.
🍕 Zorch Pizza is opening a location in South Richmond, in the former Don't Look Back South location at 7524 Forest Hill Ave.
- The new spot will have a larger menu than the OG Carytown location, with salads, hoagies and more appetizers in addition to pizza, owner Rob Zorch told BizSense.
- Plus, there will be arcade games, a full bar, patio seating in the front and back, and live music.
- The Southside outpost will be called Zorch Pizza Parlor and should open this month.
🐽 Also opening in July, Brickwood Barbecue — a dinner and nightlife restaurant spot in the former F.W. Sullivan's space at 2401 W. Main St., Bizsense reports.
🥗 Charlottesville-based Roots Natural Kitchen is planning its third Richmond-area location in the Winterfield Crossing development in Chesterfield, per BizSense.
- The salad and grain bowl restaurant is in the early stages, so it'll be at least a few months before it opens.
🦐 Plus, the owners of Blue Habanero restaurant in the Fan are planning to open La Playa Mexican Food and Mariscos in the former Lalo's Cocina space at 2617 W. Broad St. BizSense reports the restaurant will be seafood-focused and should come later this year.
🥮 Cinnaholic, a gourmet cinnamon bun bakery chain specializing in vegan baked goods, will open its first Richmond-area location on July 26 also in the Winterfield Crossing center. Check out their Facebook page to see how you could win a year of free buns.
😢 ICYMI Tio Pablo closed its Shockoe Bottom dining room last week to focus on catering and private parties.
🍔 And early next year, the Tazza Kitchen owners will open The Granite, an American grill concept, in the former Nuevo Mexico in the Stony Point Shopping Center in Bon Air.
