Richmond's Black-owned business growth is on fire

• That's compared to the national year-over-year increase of 24% for Black-owned businesses, which outpaced overall business growth last year at 20%.
• The review site started tracking Black-owned businesses through a self-identified check in 2020.

What they're saying: "The latest Yelp data is another proof point of how our region has become a dynamic hub for entrepreneurialism and cultural diversity," said Richmond Region Tourism's Tameka Jefferson, who also leads BLK RVA.

Yelp also highlighted up-and-coming Black-owned businesses, and named Hour Cycle as "one to watch."

• The downtown hip-hop cycling studio is "centered in the Black experience," per its website, and moved to Third Street in 2022 after opening in Manchester in 2020.

Be smart: Various reports have consistently ranked Richmond as one of the top cities for Black-owned businesses.
