Pinkies up: VMFA's new tea room opens Sunday

Floris, a new English and French-style tea room, opens Sunday in the Pauley Center at VMFA.
Why it matters: It's the third dining option from the art museum — and it's pinkies-up fancy.
Floris is situated in one of the buildings behind the museum, just off and overlooking the Sculpture Garden.
- The former private event space has been transformed into an intimate 12-table tearoom that can accommodate up to 50 people for high tea, and maybe a glass of wine.
Zoom in: The tea room serves a $45 per person prix fixe menu of tiny sandwiches — like Vadouvan-spiced chicken salad — a roasted apple and cheddar cheeseball and sweets, including macarons and fruit tarts — all served on a tiered tea tray.
- Also included is a selection of more than two dozen locally made teas, including a signature VMFA Blend, which is a " fusion of vanilla, floral and smoky elements that symbolize Richmond's industrial roots."
- An a-la-carte white and sparkling wine-heavy wine list, by the glass and bottle, is also available.
Floris is open Sundays through Wednesdays from 11:30am until the last seating at 2:30pm. A special holiday tea will be served Dec. 24-27 for $65 a head. Reservations via OpenTable are strongly recommended.
Of note: Floris is nearly fully booked for the next 60 days, but the sofas are left open for walk-ins.
