4 ways to celebrate Hanukkah 2023 in Richmond

Hanukkah starts at sundown today and continues through Dec 15.

Worth noting: Hanukkah starts on a different day every year on the Gregorian calendar, but it's on the same date annually on the lunisolar Hebrew calendar.

Here are some ways you can celebrate the festival of light in town.

🕎 A menorah lighting party at the Short Pump Hanukkah Party on Saturday, 4:30-6:30pm, at Gather in West Broad Village.

There will be menorah lighting, nonalcoholic cocktails, kids games and more. Free, but RSVP required.

🏃🏻‍♀️ A latke-themed 5k to benefit the Richmond Hebrew Day School, Sunday at 9:30am at the Weinstein JCC.

Following the 5k, there will be a post-race party at the JCC with donuts, hot chocolate and latkes. Running fees start at $25.

🕯 Another menorah lighting, this one on Tuesday, the sixth night of Hanukkah, at 4pm at City Hall.

Refreshments will be served, and it's free to attend (outdoors, so bundle up.).

🤤 Eat some traditional Jewish food like latkes and knish at Perly's, Richmond's Jewish deli or kugel and challah from the West African and Jewish fusion JewFro. Or pick up some rugelach or sufganiyot at Claudia's Bake Shop, a dairy-kosher bakery in Carytown.
